Café William invests more than $40 million in a new ecofriendly roasting plant

SHERBROOKE (Quebec, Canada), September 21, 2021 – The Sherbrooke-based coffee roaster William Spartivento Coffee is undertaking the construction of a new eco-responsible plant of more than 100,000 sq. ft. It will be located on Robert-Boyd Street in the Sherbrooke Regional Industrial Park. Work will begin this fall and will be completed in 2023.

This new plant represents an investment of more than $40 million for the Quebec company, which is one of the largest importers and roasters of organic and Fairtrade certified coffee in the country.

Innovation, sustainability, and social responsibility are at the heart of Café William's core values. In addition to working to develop sustainable packaging and processes, Café William participates in the local circular economy in the Eastern Townships by providing raw materials to local businesses who have a use for them.

It is therefore in perfect alignment with its values that the company is committed to building a new head office with a greener conscience. Café William is aiming for LEED Certification for this new smart factory. By meeting and exceeding established and recognized thresholds in terms of sustainable building, here are some examples of achievements that can be measured and/or qualified:

• Increasing the quality of air and light in workspaces
• Optimizing energy efficiency
• Reducing drinking water consumption
• Ensuring sound local management of rainwater
• Encouraging the use of healthier and more ecological means of transportation
• Choosing greener material for users and for the environment
• Planting, on vacant areas of our land, trees that will be returned to the Sherbrooke population during a future expansion.

In its efforts to acquire land, Café William was able to count on the support of Sherbrooke Innopole, in collaboration with the City of Sherbrooke. "We are delighted with the major expansion project that Café William is about to roll out in Sherbrooke. The plant will be at the cutting edge of technology in terms of both automation and eco-responsibility, two levers that are essential in the post-pandemic economy.
