Maple Dumplings in Coffee-Maple Whiskey Sauce
A deliciously sweet treat with a twist, perfect for the sugar shack season—or any time of the year!
Dumpling Dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/3 cup butter
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup Coureur des bois maple whiskey
Cooking Liquid:
- 1 cup maple syrup
- 3/4 cup Coureur des bois maple whiskey
- 1 cup water
- 3/4 cup Café William’s decaf coffee
Instructions:
- In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, and salt. Work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture becomes crumbly.
- Create a well in the center of the dry mixture and pour in the milk and whiskey. Stir with a fork until the dough just comes together and is evenly combined.
- In a large skillet with a tight-fitting lid, combine the maple syrup, maple whiskey, water, and Café William’s decaf coffee. Bring to a boil.
- Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling dough into the boiling liquid, one by one. Cover, reduce the heat and simmer over medium heat for 15 minutes, without lifting the lid.
- Allow the cooking liquid to reduce slightly before pouring it over the dumplings. Serve hot.
Bon appétit!
